Nick Butterworth

Nick Butterworth

The Moebius Research Trust are proud to announce that Nick Butterworth has agreed to become a Patron of the Trust.

Nick is a British writer and illustrator of children’s books whose popularity has ensured that, for nearly two decades, he has been featured in the UK top ten best sellers list for picture books. His books have been published in more than twenty languages worldwide, with international sales in the region of twelve million.

He is almost a permanent fixture on awards short lists, and has won many, including the top award from the Society of Illustrators (for One Snowy Night) and the prestigious Nestlé Gold Award for the critically acclaimed, ‘The Whisperer’.

His hugely popular series of books about Percy The Park Keeper, which alone, has amassed sales of more than seven million, has encouraged generations of children, especially in schools, to take an interest in, and care for, the natural world around them. With the ‘Percy’ books making it onto the reading list for the national curriculum, few children will not have encountered the genial Park Keeper, with the result that the actual audience is even greater than the sales figures.

Many parents with small children may also know Nick from his book about the bear that cannot smile, 'Albert Le Blanc'.  Whilst not about a bear with Moebius, its tender story is often used to highight that just because you can't smile does not mean you are not happy!

David Baynton-Power

George and David Baynton-Power

David is the drumer with Internationally renowned group James.  The group are famous for hits such as Come Home, She's a Star and Sit Down which was No. 2 in the charts for four weeks in the 90's. Reforming in 2007 to play a reunion tour that sold out in 45 minutes, James are back in the frame with their 10th studio album Hey Ma.

‘My nephew, Isaac, is 1 and he has recently been diagnosed with Moebius Syndrome.  My sister–in-law told me about the Moebius Research Trust and how they were trying to raise money to fund research into this very distressing condition.  When George’s dad, Colin, a Trustee with the charity, approached me to be a Patron I was really happy.  This is such a worthwhile cause, me and the lads from James are only too happy to help in any way we can’ explained David.

George recently met David and the group when they visited Edinburgh during their Tour and took the opportunity to try out the drums for himself!
